Last week, the Senate Education Committee left House Bill 2 pending, and time is running out.

HB 2 is the only major bill left this session that could increase funding for Texas public school teachers and students after years of dealing with crippling inflation and rising costs.

Texas PTA testified as promised, thanking lawmakers for proposed investments and raising serious concerns about the Senate’s version, which cuts the Basic Allotment increase from $395 to just $55 per student. That’s not nearly enough to cover costs or respond to student needs.

We support property tax relief, so long as it doesn’t come at the expense of our children’s education and the future workforce of our state.
